Belgium is a highly unionized country, and organized labor is a powerful influence in politics. About 53% of all private sector and public service employees are labor union members. Belgian labor unions take positions on a wide range of political issues, including education, public finance, defense spending, environmental protection, women’s rights, abortion, and other issues. They also provide a range of services, including the administration of unemployment benefits. ACLVB is one of Belgium’s three principal trade union organizations presenting oneself for the interest of more than 220.000 employees and social assurors. The ACLVB manage a network of more than 100 locations in Belgium.

Challenge and solution

ACLVB needed to send information to and receive information from the Belgian government. All employee information is sent and received in an XML format. The fastest and easiest way, was to create and interpret these documents with XBintegrator. The XML documents to the Belgian government can be very complex and with the script language XBscript, it is very flexible and easy to create this standard. After a three days training course, they were able to create the whole project by themselves. With XBintegrator they are ready for the future to connect with other companies and organization via XML.

ACLVB interconnects there legacy application and data with the government by using XBintegrator and IBM’s Websphere-MQ. XBintegrator allows ACLVB to easily communicate with Websphere-MQ from within their iSeries applications. With a few instructions of XBscript, the script language of XBintegrator, they can:- create and interpret very complex XML documents,- exchange data from and to the MQ queues (via user spaces), - handle the information within the messages to write/read information to/from the database.- call programs or any other iSeries instruction. All anomalies can be triggered in XBintegrator to ensure reliable communication. Error detection and recovery is one of the most imported values XBintegrator can offer, as well as workflow and process control.
